Prieuré de la Primaudière
Facts and practical information
The Priory of Primaudière is an ancient priory dating from the 13th and 18th centuries, built in France in the municipalities of Armaillé in Maine-et-Loire and Juigné-des-Moutiers in Loire-Atlantique.
It was founded by the monks of the Grandmont order in 1207 with the help and support of local lords. The last monks left in 1762. The main building is the chapel of la Primaudière, built in the 13th century and a place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. The organization of the priory is typical of Grandmont architecture, notably by the organization of the openings in the chapel, and its two doors, one for the faithful and the second for the monks serving it.
