Phare du Cap Lévi
Facts and practical information
The Cape Levi lighthouse is located at Cape Levi, in the commune of Fermanville, in the Manche department.
Cape Levi closes the Cherbourg roadstead to the east and is extended out to sea by the Biéroc shoals where powerful currents form, the raz du cap Levi. Following numerous shipwrecks, including that of the frigate La Résolue in June 1833, the construction of a lighthouse was decided in 1850. This lighthouse is the relay between the lighthouses of Goury and Gatteville.
Two lighthouses were successively built there: the first, dating from 1858, was dynamited by the German army in June 1944; the second was lit on July 1948.
