Facts and practical information

The Saint-Crépin-et-Saint-Crépinien church is a Catholic parish church located in Saint-Crépin-Ibouvillers, in the Oise department, in France. This church of cruciform plan is characterized by its octagonal stone spire of the mid-sixteenth century, a heavy construction and a singular composition, with a decoration freely inspired by the Renaissance and some reminiscences of the flamboyant Gothic style. Inside, the choir and the transept's crosses are especially remarkable for their sexed ribbed vaults and the unusual arrangement of the supports, which partly preserve their ancient polychromy. Construction probably took place between the end of the 12th century and the middle of the 13th century, and was therefore completed in the middle of the Radiant Gothic period, when it was deemed necessary to rework the portal, the north window of the transept, and then the west bay of the nave in the new style. The nave has been so thoroughly reworked that it no longer retains any of its original features. Its vaults were made after the fact in the 16th century, and aisles were added, one of which was demolished at an unknown time and then reconstructed around 1850. In the aisles, one can see the cross vaults decorated with false wooden ogives. The church of Saint-Crépin-et-Saint-Crépinien is classified as a historical monument by decree of December 30, 1932, and has benefited from several restoration campaigns since the end of the 1980s, so much so that today it is in an excellent state of conservation. It is affiliated with the parish of Saint-Martin de Méru-lès-Sablons with headquarters in Méru since January 1, 2020.
