Musée Franciscain, Nice
Facts and practical information
The monastery of Cimiez is a Franciscan monastery located on the hill of Cimiez in Nice and built on the basis of the chapel of Notre-Dame de Cimiez built by the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Saint-Pons, which was first mentioned in 1010. In 1546, the abbey ceded the chapel to the Friars Minor of the Observance, who subsequently enlarged and transformed it.
The present monastic complex of Cimiez includes the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption and the Franciscan museum which traces Franciscan life in Nice since the 13th century.
