Abbaye de Bonport, Pont-de-l'Arche
Facts and practical information
The abbey Notre-Dame de Bonport is a Cistercian abbey, located in France, in the department of Eure, on the commune of Pont-de-l'Arche. It is built on the bank of a dead branch of the Seine, downstream from the town of Pont-de-l'Arche.
Founded in 1189 by Richard the Lionheart, it experienced a great period of prosperity which was brought to an end by the Hundred Years' War, despite compensation from the two sovereigns whose armies had contributed to the damage. It then fell into commendation in the 16th century and was closed down by the French Revolution.
The abbey has been classified as a historical monument since July 11, 1942.
