Kutaisi Lado Meskhishvili Professional State Drama Theater - Georgian State Drama Theater, Kutaisi largest and major theater.
On March 3, 1861, with the participation of scenes in Kutaisi, the first historical performance was held, the comedy of Giorgi Eristavi "Divorce", which marked the beginning of the new movement in the history of the Georgian theater. In 1880 a professional troupe was founded in Kutaisi, led by famous actress and director Kote Meskhi in 1885.
In 1894-1905 the Kutaisi Theater was led by Lado Alexi-Meskhishvili, a great Georgian actor, director and public figure. In 1928, the second state theater was founded in Kutaisi, under the name of Kutaisi-Batumi Theater, led by Kote Marjanishvili. During the two theater seasons, the reformer of the Georgian theater, the great director, along with the true constellation of the Georgian scene actors, has made his best performances here.
In 1940 the Kutaisi Theater was named after Lado Meskhishvili. In 1955 a new building of the Kutaisi Drama Theater, a unique architectural building, was officially opened, which was granted the status of a monument in 2009. In 2008 Meskhishvili Theater opened a 100 small scene and a museum depicting the history of the Kutaisi Theater. In 2009-2010, according to the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection, the stars of the three actors of the Meskhishvili Theater were inaugurated in front of the theater: Eva Khutunashvili, Anzor Khekhadze and Erem Svanadze. The history of Kutaisi Theater is rich in names of prominent Georgian theater and culture figures, important theatrical events and facts.
