Facts About Corpse of Christ
The painting "Corpse of Christ" by Italian Baroque artist Annibale Carracci, created around 1583-1585, is currently exhibited in the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart, Germany. Executed during Carracci's early career, this piece pays homage to Andrea Mantegna's "Dead Christ" which Carracci may have encountered in the Aldobrandini collection. In Carracci's depiction, Christ is shown lying in a contorted position, viewed from his feet. Unlike Mantegna's version, Carracci's painting excludes any mourners and offers a more realistic portrayal of the body.
