Richtis Gorge

Nestled in the northeastern part of Crete, Greece, Richtis Gorge is a verdant oasis that offers a refreshing escape from the island's arid landscapes. This hiking trail, approximately 4 kilometers long, begins near the village of Exo Mouliana and meanders towards the Richtis beach on the Cretan Sea.

The gorge is a hidden gem, known for its lush vegetation, which stands in stark contrast to the surrounding rugged terrain. The trail takes hikers through an ancient world of natural beauty, where they can witness a diverse range of flora and fauna, including plane trees, oleanders, and the Cretan date palm.

One of the main attractions along the route is the Richtis waterfall, a stunning cascade that plunges into a crystal-clear pool below. The waterfall is approximately 15 meters high and is a favorite subject for photographers and nature enthusiasts.

It is well-marked and can be traversed without a guide. The hike takes about 3 to 4 hours to complete, depending on one's pace and the number of stops to soak in the scenery.
