Fekete-fej, Budapest
Facts and practical information
Fekete-fej is a 386-metre-high mountain in the Adyliget district of Budapest, in the 2nd district of Budapest. Located between the southeastern corner of the Pesthidegkúti basin and the valley of the Kis-Ördög-árok, it is a limestone rock with steep slopes, prominent on both sides towards the northwest. It is separated from the Nagy-Hársberg by the Little Ördög ditch. The southeastern stepped ridge is covered by Hársberg sandstone, the lower slopes by fractured loess-like sediment.
The top of the hill is covered by low forest with many shrubs, indicating shallow, dry soil where tree growth is slow. Continuous forest cover is needed to protect the soil, so forest management on the top of the hill has not been practised for a long time. The rocky woodland is home to many valuable plant species, such as the great aster, which flowers in early summer, and the turban lily.
At the top of the mountain, which is crossed by a red tourist path, there used to be a wooden lookout tower, but now there is only a flagpole. There is also an iron pillar on the roof that serves as a surveying point. WWF and Pilisi Parkerdő Zrt. have created an educational trail on the hill, the lower part of which describes the forestry of the forestry sector and the upper part of which shows the forests that were taken out of management. The Petneházy Riding Country Club is located at the foot of the mountain.
