Fátyol-vízesés, Bükk National Park
Facts and practical information
The Fátyol waterfall is one of the main attractions of the Szalajka Valley in Silvásvárad, one of the outstanding natural beauties of our country. The Szalajka stream is fed by karst springs. As the water from these springs rises to the surface, some of the dissolved carbon dioxide escapes into the air, and calcium carbonate is precipitated from the supersaturated water. The water cascades down 18 terraces of one such calcareous rock, some 17 metres long.
Some say it takes its name from the distinctive white veil of the water spray, others from the white, lace-like pattern of the lime tuff.
