Alamut Castle

Alamut Castle, a formidable medieval fortress nestled in the rugged landscape of Iran's Alborz mountains, stands as a testament to the region's storied past. Constructed in the 9th century, this castle was the strategic stronghold of the Nizari Ismailis, famously known as the Assassins, led by Hassan-i Sabbah in the late 11th century. Its name, meaning "Eagle's Nest," aptly reflects its impregnable location atop a soaring rock formation at an altitude of 2,100 meters.
