St. Stephen's Green, Dublin

Established in 1664, St. Stephen's Green was initially a private park for the surrounding residents. In 1880, Sir A.E. Guinness, a member of the famous brewing family, financed the redesign of the park to the layout we see today, and it was opened to the public. Its meticulously landscaped lawns, ornamental lake, and well-kept flowerbeds are the work of the celebrated Victorian landscape architect, William Sheppard.

The park's features include a variety of sculptures and memorials, paying tribute to many historical figures and events significant to Irish heritage. Among them is a statue of James Joyce, one of Ireland's most renowned writers, which is a popular spot for literary enthusiasts.

Bullet holes from this period can still be seen in the park's Fusiliers' Arch, at the main entrance on Grafton Street.
