Madonna in Glory with Saints

The painting "Madonna in Glory with Saints" by Pietro Perugino, a renowned Italian Renaissance artist, dates back to approximately 1500-1501. Today, you can admire this masterpiece at the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna, Italy. Originally, it adorned the Scarani Chapel in the church of San Giovanni in Monte.

This artwork exemplifies Perugino's mature style, significantly influenced by his earlier work, the now-lost "Assumption of the Sistine Chapel." The painting is divided into two distinct levels: the upper part features the Madonna and Child framed within a mandorla, while the lower part showcases four saints standing against a picturesque hilly landscape.

The saints depicted are the Archangel Michael, Catherine of Alexandria, Apollonia, and John the Evangelist. Upon closer inspection, you will find Perugino's signature, "PETRUS PERUSINUS PINXIT" elegantly inscribed on Catherine's wheel.
