Aqaba Flagpole, Aqaba

The Aqaba Flagpole is a soaring landmark that graces the skyline of Aqaba, Jordan's only coastal city. Rising to an impressive height of 130 meters, this monumental flagpole is one of the tallest in the world, and it proudly displays the Jordanian flag, a symbol of the country's sovereignty and heritage.

Installed in 2004, the Aqaba Flagpole is situated in the Great Arab Revolt Plaza, which commemorates the Arab Revolt of 1916 against the Ottoman Empire. The plaza and flagpole together serve as a tribute to the revolt, which was a pivotal moment in the Arab struggle for independence and the formation of the modern state of Jordan.

The flag that billows atop the flagpole is a vast piece of fabric, measuring 60 meters by 30 meters – about half the size of a football field. The flag's design consists of horizontal black, white, and green bands, with a red chevron bearing a seven-pointed star. Each color and element of the flag holds historical significance, representing the Arab Revolt and the Islamic Caliphates that have ruled the region.
