Beaufort

Perched atop a strategic hill in southern Lebanon, Beaufort Castle, known locally as Qala'at al-Shaqif, stands as a silent sentinel with a sweeping view of the Litani River and the surrounding countryside. This historic fortress, whose origins date back to the 12th century, was a key point of contention during the Crusades, changing hands between Crusader and Arab forces.

Constructed by the Crusaders in the early 1100s, Beaufort Castle's formidable stone walls and imposing location made it one of the most significant defensive strongholds in the area. It served not only as a military bastion but also as a symbol of power and control over the surrounding lands. Over the centuries, the castle bore witness to numerous battles and sieges, reflecting the turbulent history of the region.

Despite suffering damage from earthquakes and conflicts over the years, the castle remains a majestic ruin. Its architectural features, including the remnants of a large keep, a moat, and various towers and outbuildings, continue to impress visitors and historians alike.
