Orthodox cemetery in Vilnius - a historic cemetery located on Lipówka in Vilnius.
The cemetery is located between the streets of Liepkalnio, Dzūkų and Tyzenhauzų. It was established in 1796, when after the Third partition of the Polish -Lithuanian Commonwealth, the authorities of the Lithuanian Governorate separated the area for its construction. The first burials at the cemetery took place in 1815. After the November Uprising, the cemetery area was fenced with a wooden fence and a church of St. Eufrozyny.
After the suppression of the January Uprising, the authorities of the North-West country with the Governor of Muviov at the forefront decided to build a mausoleum in honor of those killed in fighting with the insurgents. In 1880 the cemetery area was enlarged to the west.
Known characters distinguished for Vilnius are buried in the necropolis, including Lecturer at the Vilnius University Paweł Kolnik, painter Ivan Trunas, editor -in -chief of "Red Banner" Leonid Romanowicz, Jaki Hołowacki, Aleksander Żyrkiewicz and the last director of the Belarusian Junior High School in Nowogródek Ivan Ciechanowski.
Nationalized in 1948, the cemetery is currently in the possession of the Orthodox parish of St. Eufrozyny in Vilnius. In 1997, the necropolis was made at the initiative of the Russian Federation commemoration of the victims of fascism from 1941–1944.
