Parnidis Dune - Pustoma sand dune south of Nida, Curonian Spit. It is one of the highest sand dunes in Europe. The dune is raised 52 m above sea level, with its height more than 60 m.
To the north of the dune is Urb Hill, to the south is an intercoptic Raguva, the so -called Silence or Death Valley. In the East, the dune slopes are based on the Curonian Lagoon. The southern part of the dune is planted with mountain pines.
The Parnidis dune enters the massif of the White Dunes. These dunes are called a quartz of light for the light shade, which contains 85 to 99 percent in the sand.
The Parnidis Dune is constantly moving towards the Curonian Lagoon and humiliating. 1675-1854. Four Nagliai villages were flooded here. 1955-1973. The dune sand filled the adjacent Pamario Palvė and part of Nida Bay.
The locals believe that the name of the dune is derived from the phrase "passing through Nida" because the dune "moved" several times through Nida settlement.
On the dune in 1995 built sundial; 1999 Damaged Hurricane Anatoly; 2011 rebuilt. A 1.8 km Parnidis Cognitive Trail leads about the dune.
