Facts About Dusky Leaf-monkey, Spectacled Langur
The dusky leaf monkey, also known as the spectacled langur or spectacled leaf monkey, is a captivating primate species from the Cercopithecidae family. These unique creatures inhabit the lush forests of Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand.
A team of researchers from Universiti Sains Malaysia recently conducted a study on 13 dusky leaf monkeys, including adult males, adult females, and juveniles. Their observations revealed some intriguing behaviors: these monkeys spend a significant amount of their time resting and roughly 33% of their time feeding on leaves from various plants in the forest canopy.
There are several subspecies of the dusky leaf monkey, including Trachypithecus obscurus obscurus, Trachypithecus obscurus flavicauda, Trachypithecus obscurus halonifer, Trachypithecus obscurus carbo, Trachypithecus obscurus styx, Trachypithecus obscurus seimundi, and Trachypithecus obscurus sanctorum. Occasionally, these monkeys have been spotted in Singapore, but it is unclear if they are escapees from captivity or if they have migrated from Johor, Malaysia.
