Facts About Large green pigeon
The large green pigeon, a member of the Columbidae family, is a striking bird native to countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand. This species thrives in the luxuriant, humid forests of these regions, particularly in subtropical or tropical lowland forests.
Roughly 15,000 to 30,000 of these pigeons inhabit Southeast Asia. They are typically found in primary and secondary evergreen rainforests, predominantly in lowland areas. Nonetheless, they can also venture into the foothills, up to altitudes of 1,500 meters above sea level.
These pigeons often form small flocks and spend their time foraging for fruits in the high canopies of the rainforests. While they are predominantly diurnal, some have been observed being active at night.
Regrettably, the large green pigeon is threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation. Illegal logging and the expansion of palm oil plantations are significant factors, impacting not only these pigeons but numerous other species in the region as well.
