European roller

The European roller is a captivating bird that stands out not only for its vibrant colors but also for being the sole member of the roller family to breed in Europe. Unfortunately, the European roller faces several challenges, such as habitat loss, hunting, and pesticide exposure. These issues have led to population declines in some areas, raising concerns about their conservation.

Researchers have employed tracking technology to study the migration patterns of European rollers, yielding valuable insights into their movements between breeding and non-breeding sites. Intriguingly, their migration routes and wintering grounds vary depending on their breeding locations.
