The Temple and former convent of Santo Domingo is a building located in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico. It is one of the highest expressions of Chiapas Baroque and surprises for the pink facade of the church, which is overloaded with ornamental figures such as anagrams and mermaids and also indigenous angels and vegetal fretwork, being one of the most decorated of Mexican colonial art.
Among the artistic jewels that it shelters in its interior, the pulpit carved in a single piece of oak, the valuable religious canvases and the complex altarpieces stand out.
The religious complex was built in the 17th century. Today, in its old cloisters there is a cooperative of indigenous handicrafts and a museum of regional history. It is located four blocks north of the Central Plaza 31 de Marzo in the traditional neighborhood of El Cerrito.
