Zoológico de Zacango, Toluca
Facts and practical information
Zacango Zoo is located in Mexico. It has more than 180 different species from all over the world, of which 80 are endangered.
It is located very close to the Nevado de Toluca, it was inaugurated and declared as a Natural Protected Area on August 29, 1981 thanks to the efforts of the government of the State of Mexico, CONAMP, SEMARNAT and CEPANAF.
It has 159 hectares and is built on the old Franciscan Hacienda of the sixteenth century, which later belonged to the Counts of Santiago and Calimaya, is considered one of the largest and most beautiful in Latin America.
It is located in the municipality of Calimaya, 14 km from the city of Toluca, in a rural area away from civilization, 15 minutes from the town of Metepec and 30 minutes from Toluca, State of Mexico.
Zacango Zoo is mainly divided into 6 different zones. Zone: Aviary, Zone: Carnivores, Zone: Primates, Zone: Herbivores, Zone: African and also has an exhibition of snakes and reptiles, the most complete collection of Latin America, with more than 60 different species of reptiles, as it has unique specimens such as the Gabon Viper, the Green Mamba, the Albino Python, the Anaconda, lizards and other reptiles.
