Borodinskaa plosad, Tiraspol
Facts and practical information
Borodino Square is the oldest and one of the main squares in the municipality of Tiraspol, Republic of Moldova. In the 18th-19th centuries, the square area was the center of Tiraspol's city. Located in the western part of the city, it intersects with Karl Liebknecht Street and is also connected with Pravdî, Raevski and Krupskaia Streets.
Borodino Square is inextricably linked to the history of Tiraspol. In fact, it was from this point that the city's development began: the area is located near the fortress, built under Suvorov's rule at the end of the 18th century, in order to strengthen the south-western border of the Russian Empire. The area was also visited by Kutuzov and Pushkin during his visit to the town in 1822. Here, not far from the square, the Russian Decembrist and poet Vladimir Raevsky was held in the fortress for four years.
