Facts About International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo
The International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo is a must-see annual event held every January in Monaco. Established in 1974 by Prince Rainier III, this festival is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the world's finest circus talent. Originally located in Monte Carlo, the event now takes place at the Chapiteau de Fontvieille in Monaco's Fontvieille district.
Circus performers from around the globe gather to showcase their skills in front of a distinguished panel of circus professionals, experts, and journalists. Prestigious awards such as the Golden Clown, Silver Clown, and Bronze Clown are bestowed upon the most outstanding acts. Various other special prizes are also awarded by different organizations.
Since 2006, Princess Stéphanie of Monaco has presided over the festival, succeeding her father. Esteemed performers who have received the coveted Clown d'Or award include Charlie Rivel, Elvin Bale, Oleg Popov, David Larible, Anthony Gatto, Alexis Grüss, Bello Nock, the Trushin Troupe, Merrylu and Jozsef Richter, and Martin Lacey Jr.
The festival concludes with a grand closing gala, where the awards, known as the Palmarès, are presented. This gala is a glamorous affair, graced by the presence of the Prince of Monaco and his family, adding a regal touch to the festivities.
