Maria-Antoinette, Deurne
Facts and practical information
The Maria-Antoinette is a wooden octagonal windmill on the Zeilbergsestraat in Zeilberg near Deurne.
The mill was built in 1847 as the middle mill of a three-aisle at Wateringen. The identical lower mill now stands as windmill De Hoop in Elspeet.
There had been a windmill in Zeilberg before, namely the Zuidplasmolen from Waddinxveen, which was purchased in 1876. This mill burned down in 1892, so the present mill was bought and rebuilt as a bell mill in Zeilberg in 1893. It served as a corn mill.
For a long time, the Maria Antoinette was an investment property of the Saint Vincent Society, which looked after the Catholic poor. In 1964 the mill was restored, replacing the roofing with thatch. In 2010, permission was granted to restore the mill. In October 2012, the mill was fully restored and festively reopened. A miller has also been found for it, who ensures that the mill can again be regularly visited in full working glory.
She has been owned by the Harmonie Excelsior since 2004.
