Zilster molen, Veldhoven
Facts and practical information
The Zilster Molen is a windmill of the belt mill type in Zeelst.
The mill was built in 1858 and was used as a corn mill. It is a round brick upper mill.
The mill has always been owned by private millers. In the past, it also served as an oil mill. Today the mill is fully milling, but it is no longer in operation.
The Zilster Molen is the lightest running mill in the Netherlands. It is located not far from the old center of Zeelst and forms a beautiful ensemble with what is left of it. Because the area around the windmill is completely taken over by urban new housing estates, the link with the original landscape has almost disappeared. But the mill still catches enough wind.
The Zilster mill was restored or repaired in 1947, 1964 and 1992.
