Facts and practical information

The Loenderveense Molen is a polder mill near the Utrecht town of Loenen aan de Vecht.

The mill was built in 1652 because natural drainage of the polder water into the nearby Vecht was no longer possible due to subsidence. The Loenderveense Molen was built as an inland mill, which can still be seen from the large cap of the mill. In the 18th century the tail was added and the wheel in the cap was removed. In 1903, the foundation was rebuilt during which the mill was temporarily moved from its place. Since 1990 the mill has been owned by the Stichting De Utrechtse Molens, which has been affiliated with Het Utrechts Landschap for several years. The sails of the windmill consist of two rods with a length of almost 26 meters and the sails of the jib. The mill grinds regularly on a voluntary basis.
