Venemansmolen, Winterswijk
Facts and practical information
The Venemansmolen or Old Mill is a corn mill built in 1898 at 7 Venemansweg in Winterswijk with parts from the sawmill De Goede Hoop, which was demolished in Zaandam-Oost. As of 1997, the mill has taken the name Venemansmolen. It is a tower mill with a wooden octagon covered with roofing leather for grinding grain. The scaffolding sits at 7.40 m above the ground and has so-called crow's feet.
The mill has 1 pair of grinding stones with 16der blue stones of 140 cm in diameter and a regulator. In addition, there is a diesel-powered grinding seat and a transportable grinding seat with a separate engine for grinding on the farmer's premises.
Inside the mill is a mixing kettle.
The welded rods, dating from 1997, are 22.86 m long. They are made by the millwright company Vaags. The inner pulley is number 15 and the outer pulley number 14. The sails of the inner pulley are fitted with Ten Have flaps and the outer pulley is angled in the old Dutch style. The van Bussel noses are on all four sails.
The mill has a prop catch, consisting of four pieces of poplar wood and is operated with a catch drum. For hoisting there is a dragging lug. Around the upper wheel there is an iron band for catching.
The pierced top shaft is from 1875 with number 955 and was made by the iron foundry the Prince of Orange. The shaft was pierced later because it is necessary for the operation of the Ten Have valves. The operation of the Ten Have valves is done with the chain of the sprocket near the tail and runs through a rack and pinion. The cap is seasoned with an English wheelbarrow.
The mill was restored from 1994 to 1997. In the process, the stone substructure was raised several meters from the top. The raised part does not run as slanted as the lower part, but is bricked up straight, because otherwise the wooden backing would no longer fit.
