Vestingmolen Bourtange, Bourtange
Facts and practical information
The Vestingmolen is a standerd mill on one of the ramparts of the former army fortress Bourtange in the province of Groningen.
Originally, there was a windmill at this location as early as 1619. This standerd mill has been in Ter Haar since 1832. During the reconstruction of the fortress, this mill was built in 1980 as a copy of the original mill in Ter Haar. For example, this standerd mill has a wooden upper shaft and breast rods. Next to the standerd mill on the miller's bastion is a small horse mill, which was used in times of need to grind grain. This horse mill was also restored to its former glory during the reconstruction of the fortress. The standerd mill is regularly operated by a volunteer miller and is owned by the municipality of Westerwolde.
The mill is a municipal monument.
