Korenmolen De Zandhaas, Haarlem
Facts and practical information
De Zandhaas is a windmill in the village of Santpoort-Noord, in the Dutch municipality of Velsen. The sails have a flight of 24 meters.
The mill was probably built in 1779. There was already talk of a mill at the same location. Due to poor wind capture, a grinding seat with electric drive on two couples was installed later. The mill now has a total of four stone couples. De Zandhaas was thoroughly restored by millers in 1992-1998. In the process, a third wind-powered couple was removed. This was not part of the original equipment. Also, jib sails were mounted and the top shaft was pierced, in order to operate the brake flaps. Since July 26, 2016, one of the rods has been fitted with Ten Have flaps.
The mill barn built in 1872 is partly furnished as a visitor center and partly used as a miller's house. Currently, grain is milled at the Zandhaas and the mill houses a visitor center and a store selling mainly flour from various types of grain. The mill store can be visited Thursday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
