Museum De Koperen Knop, Hardinxveld-Giessendam
Facts and practical information
Museum De Koperen Knop is a historical museum in the South Holland municipality of Hardinxveld-Giessendam, located in an early 17th-century farmhouse of the hallenhuistype. It shows the history of the life of local inhabitants in the Alblasserwaard. The museum was opened to the public in 1988. The initiative for the museum was taken by the local historical society and a number of enthusiastic volunteers. The museum is supported by the foundation owners and sponsors as well as donors.
The museum consists of an original former farmstead with yard, some outbuildings and a garden. The museum building itself is authentic, as are the outbuildings. The smithy originally came from the neighboring village of Giessen-Oudekerk and was rebuilt at the Museum in the 1990s. The name of the farm, and thus also of the museum, derives from the beautiful brass knob on the outside door.
