Fogelsanghstate
Facts and practical information
The Fogelsanghstate is an originally 17th-century state in the Frisian village of Veenklooster. The state forms the core of the 180-hectare estate of the same name. It was founded around 1650 by Dirck Fogelsangh near the former site of the premonstratensian monastery Mons Oliveti which was disbanded in 1580.
In the 18th and 19th centuries the state was repeatedly rebuilt, giving the Fogelsanghstate its present neoclassical appearance. The park of the state was laid out in English landscape style by Gerrit Vlaskamp to a design by Lucas Pieters Roodbaard. Both the state with its original 18th-century interior and its coach house and park are open to visitors.
