Hunebed D13 Eext, Drentsche Aa National Park
Facts and practical information
Hunebed D13, a stepped grave, is a small hunebed near the village of Eext in the Dutch province of Drenthe. The hunebed is still in the cover mound, something exceptional in the Netherlands, and in the vicinity of a late Bronze Age urn field.
The dolmen is also called Stemberg. The story goes that in 1756 a stone digger knocked on the burial mound he found and thought, because of the hollow sound that sounded when he hit the stone with his pointed iron, that he heard voices. More likely, stemberg is a corruption of stone mountain. The structure is also called Klankenberg, where this can indicate 'voice' but also 'sound'.
