De Boetselaersborg
Facts and practical information
The Boetselaersborg is a small castle on the south side of 's-Heerenberg in the eastern part of the Dutch province of Gelderland. The little castle is also called Drost Daemhuis.
The little castle, located on the Kattenburg, was built in 1550 by the brothers Daem and Hector van den Bergh. These brothers were bastard sons of Count Willem III van den Bergh and the innkeeper Lyse Poer of a 's-Heerenberg inn.
In the year 1942, a stone burial cross of Heilken Poer, who died on 22 March 1531, was fished up from the moat of House Bergh. She was a not unmindful aunt of the two brothers, in whose inheritance they shared. In 1620 the house passed to Willem Jacob van Boetselaer, who gave his name to the house. There used to be a moat around the little castle. It belongs to the possessions of Huis Bergh and cannot be visited.
