Facts and practical information
The Westbatterie is located on the west bank at the mouth of the Vecht in Muiden. In 1427, a fortification was already constructed at this location, which was further expanded over time. Especially the construction of the sea lock and the introduction of inundation as an important tool in the defense of the Netherlands contributed greatly to the strengthening of Muiden. In 1852 the present tower fortress was built, but it became militarily obsolete soon after its completion. After years of decay, today it is a location for a group of sea scouts.
