Fokhaven, Rotterdam
Facts and practical information
The Fokhaven is a water sports port on the Schie-Schiekanaal in the north of Rotterdam in the Blijdorp polder. The harbor was dug in 1960 on the initiative of the municipality of Rotterdam. It housed three water sports associations that had previously been located elsewhere.
The first was 'WSV De Schie', the ships of this association were already moored in the nearby Schie-Schiekanaal. WSV De Kolk' came from the Voorhaven of Delfshaven and from the Coolhaven came 'WSV Piet Heyn'. From 1960 to 2004 the port was used by these three water sports associations. Since 2005, they have together formed 'Watersports Association Blijdorp'.
West of the Fokhaven there was a so-called balkengat in which logs were watered on behalf of lumberyard Abraham van Stolk. As a result of the closure of the timber trade, the beam hole was filled up after 1998.
