De Nieuwe Molen, Veenendaal
Facts and practical information
The New Mill is a windmill that stands on the Mulderslaan in Veenendaal.
The windmill is a round stone post mill, of the construction year 1911 and was built as the successor of a standerd mill of the same name. The mill was built with parts of a water mill from North Holland. The mill has two couples of mill driven grinding stones and one electrically driven couple. The track wheel has fixed dams.
The mill has a flight of 26.00 meters. The sails are rigged Old Dutch.
During a very heavy downpour on Saturday, March 9, 2002, the still running mill lost its total sails due to an axle fracture and the cap was dislocated. The sails fell on the roof of the adjacent house of visual artist Hanneke Zwart. In 2003 the mill was restored again.
The mill can be visited on Saturdays. Flour products are sold in the mill store.
Owner is the foundation De Utrechtse Molens in De Bilt. This foundation owns 23 mills. The daily management of these mills is in the hands of the foundation Het Utrechts Landschap.
