De Hoop, Harderwijk
Facts and practical information
Windmill De Hoop is located at Havendijk 2 in Harderwijk. The tower mill was built to replace an earlier 1911 mill on the Strandboulevard, which burned out in 1969. Although the plan to rebuild it at a different location soon came about, rebuilding it took a long time due to various circumstances. For the new windmill De Hoop the body of the Reerink windmill in Oldenzaal was used. This was purchased by the Harderwijker Molenstichting in 1993. The mill was rebuilt by the firm Vaags from Aalten. In 1998, De Hoop was put into operation and in 1999 it was opened to the public.
The wooden octagon dates from 1779. Then the mill built in 1693 in Weesp was rebuilt after a fire. In 1913 the mill was demolished and then rebuilt in Oldenzaal to replace the Bisschopsmolen, a standerd mill. In early September 1993, the wooden octagon was moved to Harderwijk and in 1995 work began on rebuilding the mill at the Vissershaven. At the entrance three gable stones remind us of this past.
De Hoop has three pairs of grinding stones, one of which is electrically driven. There is a couple with 17der blue stones and a couple with 17der artificial stones. The electrically driven grinding couple also has 17der artificial stones.
The cast iron upper shaft was cast in 1997 by the Gieterij Hardinxveld and has the number 77.
The windvane has double-straw sails with brake flaps. The welded, 26.30 m long rods were made in 1997 by the fabr. Buurma/Naaijer and have the numbers 343 for the inner rod and 342 for the outer rod. The mill is caught with a Flemish block catch, which is operated with a rocker stick. The catch consists of five catches. In the easel there is a slide for the hinging of the catch beam, which allows an infinite adjustment of the catch beam.
The cap has an English windrow, which is operated by a windrow wheel with circular jug chain.
The grinding material is sounded with a drag lute table. The lute table also drives other implements using drive belts.
The long spout is behind the upper wheel. The old upper wheel, which is now in the grinding loft, has been replaced by a new upper wheel.
