Facts About Chocolate fish
In New Zealand, the chocolate fish is more than just a sweet treat—it's a beloved symbol often given as a reward for a job well done. These delightful confections are shaped like fish and typically measure between 5 to 8 centimeters in length. They consist of soft pink or white marshmallow encased in a thin layer of milk chocolate. The fish’s distinctive rippled or scaled appearance is achieved by passing the unset chocolate under a blower.
Although several companies produce chocolate fish, Cadbury is the most renowned manufacturer. Smaller versions, aptly named "sprats" are also available.
The chocolate fish boasts an intriguing history in New Zealand. In the late 1990s to early 2000s, Tip Top even introduced a chocolate fish-flavored ice cream, although it was short-lived. In 2019, Cadbury included chocolate fish in their Favourites box, further solidifying its status as a Kiwi cultural icon.
