When Is the Best Time To Visit North Macedonia?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit North Macedonia depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Climate of North Macedonia
A large influence on climate formation is the variation of terrain and the influence of Mediterranean and continental air masses. These factors result in a transitional climate between Mediterranean and temperate continental in most areas. The highlands and mountainous areas are characterized by a temperate climate, but the high parts of the mountains are already regions of mountain climate with climatic floors.
The weather in the country is characterized by hot and dry summers, with temperatures reaching 30°C in the lower regions, while regions in the south (Demir Kapija, Gevgelija) are even hotter, here the mercury bar exceeds 40°C. Mountainous areas are much cooler, conditioned by altitude, the higher the altitude, the colder it is.
The winter period is relatively mild, with temperatures ranging from -2°C to 10°C. Only in the mountains it is definitely colder, there the temperatures drop as low as -20°C.
Precipitation in North Macedonia varies and is distributed irregularly, with a slightly higher intensity in spring and autumn. In the western part of the country they amount to 700 mm - 800 mm per year, while in the valleys in the south and east they are smaller, around 500 mm - 600 mm per year. In contrast, the most precipitation occurs in mountainous regions (up to 1,500 mm), and in winter the precipitation is mainly in the form of snow.
