Facts About Tikka
Tikka, a delectable dish from the Indian subcontinent, is sometimes spelled as "teeka" or "teekka." It typically features a piece of meat, such as a cutlet, marinated and cooked to perfection. One of the most beloved versions is chicken tikka, where chicken pieces are marinated in a rich and flavorful spice mixture.
But it's not limited to meat lovers alone! Numerous vegetarian tikkas exist, with potato often starring as a primary ingredient. In Western countries, especially in the UK, chicken tikka masala—a curry dish—has gained immense popularity.
The secret to a great chicken tikka lies in its marinade, which usually includes a blend of aromatic spices and yogurt (dahi). Another excellent variant is paneer tikka, where Indian cottage cheese (paneer) is marinated and cooked in a tandoor, a traditional clay oven.
When meat is used, the dish is often classified as a kebab. Both tikka and kebabs may sometimes be deep-fried and are prominent features in Mughlai cuisine, renowned for its rich and flavorful dishes.
