Speckled Worm Lizard

The *Amphisbaena fuliginosa*, commonly known as the black-and-white worm lizard, speckled worm lizard, or spotted worm lizard, is a distinctive species of amphisbaenian. It is easily recognizable by its striking white and black mosaic pattern that adorns both its dorsal and ventral surfaces.

This elusive creature is primarily found in northern South America, including Trinidad, with its range extending to the Brazilian Cerrado biome. In Brazil, it is commonly observed in areas such as Minas Gerais and Goiás.

*Amphisbaena fuliginosa* leads a reclusive lifestyle. It is a burrowing, nocturnal animal, spending most of its existence underground. Its diet predominantly consists of small invertebrates and insects, which it captures using its powerful jaws.
