Facts and practical information
The Legnica Copper Museum collects collections related to the mining, processing and application of copper, contemporary Polish goldsmithing and the history of Legnica and the Legnica region. In total, for over 40 years of its operation, the Museum has collected about 30 thousand exhibits, while the Museum library holds 8200 volumes of printed books and 1700 volumes of periodicals, and these numbers are constantly growing.
The main seat of the museum is the historic, baroque building of the former abbots' curia from Lubiąż, located in Legnica at the junction of St. John and Partyzantów streets, erected in 1728. The museum owns part of the building of the Knights' Academy, where it also conducts exhibition activities.
The museum was established in 1962 on the initiative of Tadeusz Guminski.
The Copper Museum also includes
Castle chapel of St. Benedict and St. Lawrence in Legnica, the largest lapidarium in Lower Silesia.
A branch of the Copper Museum is the Museum of the Battle of Legnica in Legnickie Pole.
