Dąb Jana Stanki, Wrocław
Facts and practical information
Jan Stanka oak - pedunculate oak growing in Wrocław in Szczytnicki Park. Its trunk circumference is 543 cm, and it is one of the oldest trees in the city. On April 2, 1976, the Jan Stanka Oak was declared a natural monument by the decision of the Provincial National Council. The tree was protected even before 1945. In 1879, it was given the name of Gustav Adolf Fintelmann, an outstanding German gardener and dendrologist, which is commemorated by an inscription carved on a boulder next to the oak. After 1945 the inscription commemorating Fintelmann was destroyed and Jan Stanko - medieval physician and naturalist connected with Wroclaw - became the new patron of the tree.
In order to protect the tree from damage, due to significant trunk damage, the branches were connected with steel cables.
