Facts and practical information
Monument to Seafarers - located in the area of the Gdynia harbor at Gombrowicz Square, in the immediate vicinity of the Marine Station and the harbor master's office.
The monument was unveiled on July 22, 1965. It bears the inscription "To the Sea People" and a quotation from Gall Anonim translated by Franciszek Fenikowski: "Today sons do not fear storms nor the noise of sea waters". The whole monument consists of four post-glacial boulders symbolizing the four maritime professions: dockers, sailors, fishermen and shipyard workers. The author of the idea is Adam Smereka, and the author of the sculptural concept is Viktor Tolkin.
