At 474 meters in length, the bridge was named in honor of the Silesian-Dąbrowa Legion, a military unit that played a significant role in the defense of Poland during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. The original bridge on this site, the Kierbedzia Bridge, was destroyed during World War II, and the Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge was constructed on its foundations in the immediate post-war period.
