King's Christ Church, Świnoujście
Facts and practical information
Christ the King Church - a church built between 1788 and 1792 on the site of a Gothic building, in the center of town on Church Square. In 1881 a tower dominating over the town center was added. Nowadays it is illuminated at night and a clock is installed on it. The church belongs to Christ the King parish.
The architecture inside the church itself is distinctive. A wooden model of an 1814 corvette is suspended from the ceiling. In the church there is a historic 31-register organ from 1927. The church is currently adjoined by a presbytery built in 1975-1977. In 1982-1986, a general renovation of the interior of the church was carried out. Two-storey wooden balconies were replaced with one-storey reinforced concrete ones. A new coffered ceiling was installed, covering the old wooden one. The wooden staircase in the main church tower was demolished and replaced with a reinforced concrete structure. The entrance in the tower facing the street was bricked up and two new openings were made, installing doors on the sides of the tower. In 2001, the floors and stained glass windows were replaced. After 2016, the façade of the church building was changed to a smooth façade by removing the lambskin plaster laid in the 1970s. Exterior protective grilles for the stained glass windows were also installed.
From mid-May to mid-September on Saturday evenings the church hosts Swinoujscie Organ Evenings.
