Park nad Jasieniem, Łódź
Facts and practical information
Park nad Jasieniem - a Lodz park located between Śmigłego-Rydza Street, Tymienieckiego Street and the Zbiorcza housing estate. Area 13.0 ha.
From the north, the park stretches from Śmigłego-Rydza Street to the borders of the former "Anilana" factory complex, bounded by railroad tracks, and from the south, it is bounded by the pond and the Jasień River and Tymienieckiego Street.
These areas used to belong to the bishopric of Włocławek and in 1823 they became the property of the city, which subsequently granted a perpetual lease to Krystian Fryderyk Wendisch, a settler from Saxony, for an area stretching along Emilia Street from Widzewska Street to the borders of Widzew, i.e. to Konstytucyjna Street. The area of water and factory estates included four mills located on the River Jasień: Księży Młyn, Lamus, Araszt and Wójtowski Młyn, the latter on the site of today's park. After Wendisch's death, the area became the property of Karol Moes, a factory owner from Zgierz, and later it was owned by Teodor Krusche, who in 1870 sold the whole area together with the factory to Karol Scheibler. Also the area of the present park belonged to "Scheibler's kingdom", which covered 1/6 of the then Lodz. The park and the allotment gardens south of the park were established on the grounds of Scheibler's manor. Despite the official ban on using the city's land for agricultural purposes, Scheibler established a manor farm with an area of over 100 hectares, including meadows, fields and farm buildings within the boundaries of Lodz.
The park was created in 1964 on meadows, wasteland used at most for playing ball by local children. Already then, south of Tymienieckiego Street there were allotment gardens. In the 1960s, the "Zbiorcza" housing estate was established adjacent to the park. In the early 1970s, the park was separated from the rest of "Scheibler's kingdom" by Promińskiego street.
In spite of all kinds of works recently done in the park, such as the construction of a playground, sports fields, an outdoor gym, cleaning the pond and renovation of the damming structure - the park seems to be wild, although it is very spacious and bright, there are no hardened paths as in other parks. You can walk on narrow paths trodden in the grass. Thanks to the disappearance of the railroad tracks the park expands into a green belt with an alley stretching along the blocks at Zbiorcza Street. The barrier, which was the railway tracks, disappeared and in several places passages to the north were created, thanks to one of them the park by the Jasień River is connected with the park by Paryska Street.
The dark green color indicates green areas on the plan that are officially outside the park boundary but connect to it.
