Pomnik Lampiarza, Łódź
Facts and practical information
The monument to the Lamplighter, an unnamed electrician, was unveiled on 21 September 2007 next to Dawid Szmulewicz's tenement house at 37 Piotrkowska St. The occasion was the centenary of the first power plant in Łódź. The founders of the monument are Dalkia Łódź SA and Zakład Energetyczny in Łódź. The monument presents a life-size stylish lantern and a lamplighter with a bulb in his right hand, standing on a ladder supported by a pole. Next to it there is a bag which is also a monument bench on which one can sit.
The statue by Marcel Szytenchelm is part of the Gallery of Great Lodz Inhabitants, which since 1999 has adorned Piotrkowska Street with bronze outdoor sculptures standing on sidewalks, commemorating famous people associated with Lodz.
