Studnia Napoleona, Wielkopolski National Park
Facts and practical information
Napoleon's Well - a well located to the west of Pożegów, a district of Mosina, within the Wielkopolska National Park, on the slope of the Pożegowska Moraine, near the Osowa Góra railroad station.
The well is located by the former important trade route that led from Poznan westwards towards Prussia and France. It was an important stopping place and resting place for travelers. Legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte, on his way from France to Moscow, also stopped nearby and sent his adjutant for water, which turned out to taste like champagne. The phenomenon of turning water into champagne is supposed to happen here once a year at an unknown time. According to other sources, the above events may have occurred in 1806 or 1807.
The well was renovated and put into use on 18 August 2012, in a form reminiscent of 18th/19th century buildings, with a wooden roof. It is one of the points on the didactic path named after Professor Adam Wodziczko.
